The Chainsmokers: Bouquet - Digipak and Magazine Promotional Poster Deconstruction

The Chainsmokers - Digipak

Front Panel

The album cover is actually in sync with The Chainsmokers and their brand, in the music video for "Roses", The Chainsmokers didn't feature vocally on the track, 'Rozes' did and she also wrote the lyrics for the song. They also weren't features in the music video itself. The music video and this album cover are quite mysterious in the sense that you don't know who The Chainsmokers are, you don't know what they look like or by looking at the album cover, what kind of music they release. The flowers are very relaxed and fit together well, they are in harmony with each other; the colours are very neutral and almost faded at the top but get darker and stronger as they move towards the bottom of the bouquet. This presents the sense of a journey and shows a variety which could correlate with what kind of music The Chainsmokers produce and release.
The music videos released by The Chainsmokers often tell a story which relates well with the song and have a mysterious element. For example, in the "Roses" video, the location is unknown and the relationship between the couple is quite turbulent. The "Roses" in the video link also with the roses and other flowers on the album cover. Flowers are often a symbol of love and romance.

The Chainsmokers are in a sense a very secretive artist as they keep their physical appearance under wraps. The record label is highly likely to respect that because it brings a sense of uniqueness to their brand, and the enigma boosts the want and need to buy the product and figure out who The Chainsmokers are and what they're about. The Chainsmokers don't often take a lead in the videos they release however, it depends on the song because they are known to appear in some and not others.

The album cover does have traditional conventions amongst its uniqueness. The artists name and the album title are clearly visible in the centre of the cover and their boldness in the black writing and outlined by the thick black lines attracts the eye of the audience. This kind of recognition is very important both from the artists point of view as well as the record label. The audience needs to be able to connect with a symbol of some sort so that when it comes to buying the album they know what they're looking for. Other traditional conventions such as having the artist feature on the cover does not occur in this case, therefore there is no front man to focus on specifically, instead its an image of flowers.

Inside and Side Panels

I was unable to find the inside and side panel of this particular album cover, however it can be assumed that it will follow the structure of having the flowers incorporated in it in some way.

Back Panel

The design for the back panel of this album cover is very unique in its presentation of the track list. It is on an unconventional side and brings attention to itself because of this. It is a reverse of the front panel because the white is now in the middle and the flowers are on the outside creating a border. All the conventional features such as; the track list, the record label's name/logo and the barcode and copyright information. The record label must be incorporated in some way because the artist is their product and needs recognition.

Magazine Promotional Poster

The Chainsmokers are a very modern artist and therefore aren't following what used to be the traditional forms of promotion such as a magazine poster. Instead they are relying heavily on social media and marketing that way. They released an image of the album cover as their promotional poster alongside the information such as the release date etc.
